Driving Directions:

  • 35W/35E north to Duluth
  • Hwy 61 to Two Harbors( the scenic Hwy 61 is very nice for a picnic on
        Superior,  but takes 15-20 more minutes
  • Hwy 2 ( MN. hwy) North. About 40 miles to Hwy 1
  • Turn right on Hwy 1( towards Isabella, L. Superior) – 7.4 miles
  • Turn left on Mitawan Lake Road (past Mile Post 319). This is the
         intersection of Knotted Pine Resort/Bar -  3.2 miles
  • Turn right on Mitawan Lake Road – 1.4 miles. Road goes between
         Kitigan & Mitawan Lake, follow dirt road, bear to the right, to a cabin
         on Mitawan shore, bear left, look for cabin fire numbers
  • Alces Fire Number is 10660 (reflective sign). Turn right, follow road
        to lake. Cabin can’t be seen from road, is down below, by lake. There
        is a 2-way switch to turn lights on path. ( grey box )

Cabin rental is one hour north of Duluth, the gateway to the picturesque Arrow head region of northern Minnesota. Cabin is close to Ely, Minnesota. Remote, but one of the most unique winter wonderlands in the midwest. Ski the Superior National Forest. Dog-sledding, ice fishing, snow mobiling, cross country skiing in or near the BWCA. Loaf, read, sleep, walk the outside woods or relax the mind and enjoy nature.
